Sources & licences
Everything on Korean Path is built from openly licensed material. This page says exactly what came from where.
국립국어원 한국어기초사전
The vocabulary, definitions, example sentences, dialogues, pronunciations and audio all come from the 한국어기초사전 (Basic Korean Dictionary), published by the 국립국어원 (National Institute of Korean Language). That is 14,988 entries, 68,058 example sentences, 21,357 dialogue exchanges and 13,857 recordings.
Used under CC BY-SA 2.0 KR. Our derived work — the grading, the groupings, the conjugation tables and everything written here — is offered under the same licence.
TOPIK level grading
The 1급–6급 grades attached to each word, grammar point and idiom are the dictionary's own. The exam's shape — sections, item counts, timing and the score each level is awarded at — is hand-entered from TOPIK's published 시행 계획 and is the one thing here that cannot be diffed against a machine-readable source. Verify it at topik.go.kr before relying on it.
What we added
- Frequency ranking, level bucketing and the ordering of every list.
- Revised Romanization and 초성 indexing, generated from the Hangul rather than supplied.
- The hanja character inversion and the readings derived from it.
- English translations of dialogue and grammar material where the dictionary had none.
