How do you conjugate 읽다 in Korean?
읽다 (to read) is 읽어요 in the polite 해요체, 읽습니다 in formal 합니다체, 읽어 in casual 반말 and 읽는다 in the plain written style. The past is 읽었어요.
What is the past tense of 읽다?
읽었어요 in everyday polite speech, 읽었습니다 formally. It is built from the 아/어 form 읽어 plus ㅆ, which is why an irregular stem shows its irregularity here.
Is 읽다 a regular verb?
Yes. Its stem never changes shape: 읽습니다, 읽어, 읽으니 all keep 읽 intact. Only the ending moves.
