How do you conjugate 잇다 in Korean?
잇다 (to connect, to join) is 이어요 in the polite 해요체, 잇습니다 in formal 합니다체, 이어 in casual 반말 and 잇는다 in the plain written style. The past is 이었어요.
What is the past tense of 잇다?
이었어요 in everyday polite speech, 이었습니다 formally. It is built from the 아/어 form 이어 plus ㅆ, which is why an irregular stem shows its irregularity here.
Is 잇다 irregular?
Yes — it is ㅅ irregular (ㅅ 불규칙). ㅅ drops before a vowel: 짓다 → 지어요. That is why the stem looks different in 이어 and 이으니 but unchanged in 잇습니다.
